Those words, included in the Apostles’ Creed, attest to the fact that God is not only our Savior and Redeemer, but our Creator. How better to view His great attributes than in His creation! I like to think that nature’s beauty is a glimpse of heaven.
Eternal Perspectives by Sally Bair
God is our maker
The wind howled and snow fell into growing drifts until one of the doors where I live wouldn’t close. I felt the cold wind on my face and fingers as two of us shoveled and swept the doorway clean.
All of our senses can be affected by nature. Such feelings prompted my mother, Ruth Bunker Christiansen, to write a poem years ago. Perhaps we all can relate to it.
To the Maker and Master of all Things
by Ruth Bunker Christiansen
I have seen majestic mountains where the streams come tumbling down
and the autumn of the valleys in their hues of gold and brown.
I have felt fierce winds of winter and soft whispers of the breeze
and I’ve seen a glorious sunset through the sheathless winter trees.
I have heard the wild geese honking and the eerie laugh of loon,
I have counted stars at midnight in the light of Harvest Moon.
I have smelled the scent of roses with spent petals at their feet
and I’ve trod the paths of woodlands where the hunter and hunted meet.
I have tasted roadside berries growing near the pasture fence
and I’ve searched for nesting catbirds where the briars grow most dense.
I have seen a bit of heaven in the blue of babies’ eyes
and I know the love of children with their bonds of family ties.
Now, I feel a thanks within me to the Maker of all things
and I fold my hands most humbly for the joy Thy treasure brings.
Such thoughts can cause us to worship our Creator for the beauty He brings in boundless ways. King David wrote many songs about creation that prompt worship and adoration.
“Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. For He is our God and we are the people of His pasture and the sheep of His hand. (Psalm 95:6-7)
The Lord reminded Job of His power and might. “Have you entered the treasury of snow, or have you seen the treasury of hail …? Who has divided a channel for the overflowing water or a path for the thunderbolt … From whose womb comes the ice? And the frost of heaven, who gives it birth? … Does the eagle mount up at your command and make its nest on high? … Shall the one who contends with the Almighty correct Him? He who rebukes God, let him answer it. … Look now at the behemoth, which I made along with you; … surely the mountains yield food for him … he lies under the lotus trees in a covert of reeds and marsh.” (Job 38-40 selected words)
Lord, thank You for Your powerful, awe-inspiring creation. We praise and worship You for all You provide. In Jesus’ name, amen.
