DAZZLING SNOW
When the sun shines on freshly fallen snow, it dazzles the eyes. Doesn’t it remind you of God’s brilliance of forgiveness?

White as Snow
“Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like
scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.” (Isaiah 1:18)
There’s little that can compare to the beauty of a blanket of freshly fallen snow– unless you happen to be driving in it, of course. Even then, it’s hard to deny its beauty. It doesn’t take long, however, before the new coating of snow turns gray, brown, or even black. The muddy wash from vehicles speeding by, dust and dirt falling from the sky, grimy tracks from animals and humans all have a part in degrading the appearance of the landscape.
God’s covering of our sins is like new snow. We are at our cleanest and most spiritually pure after we confess our sins and repent of our wrongdoing. The word sin isn’t recognized or spoken of much in our present society. It has become politically and socially incorrect to utter the word. Instead, we hear such phrases as “inappropriate behavior,” “I made a mistake,” or “nobody’s perfect.” But that doesn’t change the biblical truth that disobedience to God is sin, plain and simple. And when we recognize it in its truth, we must deal with it. The Bible is full of verses that substantiate that fact.
The Bible says that even those who do good are sinners because no one is good.
In God’s eyes, wrongdoing includes a lot more than murder, theft, infidelity, and all the “biggies” we accept in society as criminal or immoral. It also means being angry, greedy, bitter, critical, proud, selfish, and more. No matter how good we are, we cannot measure up to God’s standards of purity and holiness.
But thanks to God, no matter how bad we’ve been, there is hope. Anyone can receive God’s forgiveness for any sin. When we ask for His forgiveness and turn away from our sin, we will become white as snow. Because Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection make it possible.
Lord, we thank You that no matter how bad we’ve been, how short we’ve fallen, Your love is big enough to make us pure and holy. As we bring our sins before You, we accept with gratitude and praise Your unfailing love and forgiveness. In Jesus’ name, amen.
